Teleflip isnt working with new version of firefox

    2. Eric Says:

I’m sorry it isn’t working for you John, but I just tested all of the extensions on a new install yesterday, and it works fine for me.

If you upgraded versions of your browser then there’s a chance that your profile directory has been corrupted.

Also, since I’m not sure which OS you use, this particular extension is for Windows only, and service is only available in North America at the present.

    3. Mordechai (Morty) Schiller Says:

I also thought it wasn’t working. But when I changed the SMTP server to my ISP it worked fine. John might want to take a look at his settings in “Options.”

If I send a text message to my friend will it cost him anything? Or is this a completely free way to communicate?

    5. Roger Says:

I would like to use this with Gmail, but apparently it doesn’t work through Gmail’s servers.

    6. ebricca Says:

well the gmail smtp server forward uses tls auth on port 587 so you may not have it configured it that way

I have tried to use Teleflip in Gmail, Yahoo, my Outlook, through my Database, off the Teleflip website even and nothing. I am running windows and in North America. Is there something I am missing here? Do I need to install something or sign up somehow?

    15. Eric Says:

It seems that some people are having problems getting this one up and running.

The hardest part about setting it up right is putting in the correct SMTP address. Many people don’t know it because they use gmail or yahoo web mail. The SMTP address is what is used to send outgoing mail from your Internet Service Provider, i.e. Comcast, Roadrunner, Earthlink, Verizon, Shaw, etc.

This will not work (as far as I know) with any web-based e-mail services, including gmail. Let me know if you find out otherwise.

For example, I have Comcast, so for me, after going to Teleflip > Settings, my SMTP server address is smtp.comcast.net, and needs no password or username. In fact, I can even write ehamiter@gmail.com in the “From” e-mail address line. The important line is the SMTP address, and the port is 25 for Comcast.

Then, when you send a text message, the phone number is 10 digits long. Area code and exchange and number, for instance, 4105551212.

That’s pretty much all there is to it. If you’re still having problems then try contacting your local Internet Service Provider to get the information for your SMTP address, the port, and if a username and password is required.

I’ve tried to reproduce a part of this extension (packaging a tool with it) for a linux environment, but the archive seems to lose the execute permission for the tool. Is there any way to work around this?

      i am using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1 ID:2005100614.

runs smooth absolutly trouble-free for me

    18. Rob Says:

Hey, i was just wondering what the port number is for verizon?? and i was also wondering if i need to put in the SMPT server space the email adress that i have from verizon, or what do i put in that space?

      Thanks

    19. Shaughn Says:

You know, not to be touting proprietary software, but AOL’s AIM product has had this capability for years.
And, no, I don’t mean via the lousy AIM Mobile service.

Send an IM to the target phonenumber, prepended with a plus sign.

I.E.; Open a new im window. Type “+18005551212″ as the recepient and then type away. (Obviously replacing 1-800-555-1212 with a real number, no dashes)

And to initiate from the cell phone end, just send a text message to number 265010 with the first word in the message being the targeted username followed by a colon.

I.E.; Send text to 265010(as phone number)
Msg: “RecipientSN: Hi” (where recepient is the person you are trying to reach on AIM)

After a few exchanges too, AIM’s service will notify the phone that it’s granted the person you’re talking to’s screenname a set number, like 265XXX so you won’t need to start each text with “Screenname:”.

      Easy Peasy.

      Greetings:

I too could use a link to some instruction(s).

I had reinstalled my OS (WinXP-SP1), reinstalled Firefox 1.5.0.2 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2 – Build ID: 2006030804) then reinstalled Teleflip 0.3 … and it does not appear to be an option, either that or I am not using it properly (and yes, I entered the proper mail server information in “Options”).

I did go to the Teleflip site, and using Thunderbird, was able to send several text messages that were received … so the Teleflip site appears to be working.

A link to any directions would be welcomed … “Directions For Dummies” format especially welcomed!

Thank you again for your efforts,

Eric, it works with Gmail but, in addition to “Blat”, you need “Stunnel”, which requires a SSL library. IMNSHO and much as I hate toolbars, the “WataCrackaz” extension makes more sense…for anyone in their right mind, I mean.

If you didn’t have to download and install three other packages to get this to work with Gmail, it be a pretty decent extension. If you had the option of a toolbar icon, it’d be a good extension and, if it had a directory, it’d be a great extension. “Three stars”. 8-รพ

    23. Rick Says:

Did anyone else here start getting text message spam after using teleflip? I saw it on an episode of Hak.5, decided to try a test message to myself, and not a week later, got my first instance of text message spam.

I know I haven’t used my cel ph # on the internet anywhere else, and I only used it that one time. It happened again a month later. I had this account for what, a year prior with no problems? Seems like they might be doing something shady, that’s all.

Still, I dig your bugmenot plugin, keep up the good work!
