Hosting problems are now (hopefully) a thing of the past

Okay, everything is now good to go. Man, that was a pain in the butt. Basically what happened was this:

My old host blocked access to the site, saying that I had not paid that month for my account. That was interesting, since not only do I have automatic payments set up, but I had already paid until June of 2006. Then they said that, oh, wait a minute… we meant that you never paid for the year of 2004. Yeah, that’s it.

So, I dug through my paypal archives, and discovered that yes, they had been paid. So I e-mailed the screenshot to them, and they said that ah, you have paid us, huh? Then the next step to regaining access to my site that had been paid for would be to fill out some forms. It was at this point I told them to go screw themselves, and changed the hosting in the next minute.

Database server crashes, inaccurate claims of payments, changing my original pricing structures, downgrading my bandwidth while charging the same price… these are all consistent problems I had with the old host, and I was sick and tired of it. Like I said in the previous post, I’m now with Dreamhost, who I have heard nothing but praise about.

So once my domain pointed to the new hosting, I had to reset the WordPress installation, upload the modified files that I had luckily backed up a short week ago, and then import the old MySQL database over to the new one. I think everything went according to plan, but I guess only time will tell.

So here’s to some solid hosting, and hopefully a 99% bungle-free future.

I’ve had trouble with hosts “censoring” bugmenot.com before until i found:

      http://www.nearlyfreespeech.net

Free speech aside they actually run a really reliable, cheap hosting service.

I remember reading about them last time I talked to you, Bug (long time no hear!) and I’ve heard nothing but great things about them as well. It comes down to if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

I was paying $2.99 a month for 60 GB of bandwidth and 10 GB of storage, so I guess I wasn’t paying for any customer service or uptime guarantees, because I was severely lacking both of those.

You might want to check out bugmenot.com, the site is down. There’s an error message up about how the contract has expired and and is awaiting renewal.

Thanks for the great site and extensions.

People do not sign for automatic payments. Ofcourse it’s easerer, but all the times could occure samiliar problems. I have feeled on my own skin.
