BugMeNot 1.1 is out. Now featuring: bug fixes

Filed under: general — Eric @ 5:37 pm

Dmytri Kleiner has knocked out some bug fixes and made some improvements. Version 1.1 has:

improved login form element locating logic.

DOM based parsing of BugMeNot user & password data.

    Menu Improvements:

“Extra Menu Items” now under one submenu named after the target
    site, i.e. “www.nytimes.com

A new submenu called “BugMeNot Accounts” which lists the 5 accounts received from bugmenot.com and allows the user to login with which ever one they chose. If the first two options in the preferences are disabled, then this allows for the manual account selection one user was asking form.

    Test away!

For some reason, when I check for updates to Bugmenot in the extensions menu, it doesn’t find anything. Do I have to uninstall 1.0 and install 1.1?

    2. Wish-A-Lot Says:

      Hi,

Regarding my posting on January 13th, 2006 at 11:01 pm, I have to report that your brand new BMN 1.1 extension is getting better on my computer set (FF 1.5 pt_BR over WinXP Pro SP2 pt_BR)… BUT…. it still not working seemless as it did before (FF 1.0.7 + BMN extension version 0.9)

Now when I’m trying to get access (once again) on http://www.correiodopovo.com.br/ (or even http://www.zerohora.com.br/, just to mention a few examples) I’m getting a different alert from BMN 1.1 extension: “No accounts found for this site, if you create one please submit it to bugmenot.com!”

Fact: Actually there are 02 (two) accounts already included on BugMeNot.com database for http://www.correiodopovo.com.br/ website, and both are working pretty fine when typed directly (manually) over the HTML form!

Please check this out. Apparently it seems to be a bug yet present on BMN extension version 1.1.

And sorry for being annoying about the website I’ve been reporting here, but that’s one I used to access quite frequently.

      Best regards, thanks in advance.
      marcio

WIsh-A-Lot, thanks for the feedback. It really helps. The site http://www.correiodopovo.com.br/ was one of my testing sites as a result of your earlier comments. Can you clear your cookies for that site and for bugmenot.com, make sure you have 1.1 loaded and try again.

      Thanks again.

    4. Webb Says:

It works fine on both of those sites for me.

      From Zero Hora:

      “Olá Astolfo.
      Se você não é
      Astolfo,
      clique aqui”.

    5. EDKendrick Says:

I seem to be able to login to http://www.newscientist.com with a bugmenot login ID and PW but not http://www.newscientistspace.com.
It gives me “No accounts found for this site, if you create one please submit it to bugmenot.”
That is understandable since it is a different site except it should be the same as http://www.newscientistspace.com‘s. At least according to their login help..
I can’t cut and paste the NewScientist PW as it is all ******’s. Is there a way I can see the PW provided by Bugmenot or add the http://www.newscientistspace.com ID and PW as valid for http://www.newscientistspace.com?

Great extension by the way. Thanks!

    6. EDKendrick Says:

I answered my own question by actually reading the F*$@) manual on firefox. Sorry about that! I looked at the password for NewScientist.com in my cookie and used it to login the NewScientistSpace.com and it works fine.
Now if I can just figure out how to update Bugmenot with that info.
      I know rtfm.

      Thanks!

    7. phloo Says:

bmn 1.1 – it seems the “login with bugmenot” appears in every context dialog, even on websites without any login forms. this is not really annoying but a waste of space. please fix it, thanks. otherwise your work is highly appreciated!! :D

    8. Eric Says:

1.2 is out with a fix for phloo’s suggestion. Now the only item you will see after logging in will be the option to report a successful login.

    9. BMNuser Says:

1.2 does not seem to be auto-logging in the next user on a failed attempt. All of my options are unchecked.

1.0 worked 100% with this feature.

    10. Throbinskin Says:

      https://secure.reuters.com/

On this site I get an error !

Found this extension while surfing the net..
This will be my favorite if I can get it to work

      Throbinskin

    11. Crow Says:

      Hey works great with 1.5

      THX !!!

I also got a suggestion for the context menu->
If an acccount doesn’t work, it should be deleted from the menu. And if all accounts failed, a message should appear so that the user is notified.

Is there a website where the top100 bugmenot sites are listed?

      Greetinx

    12. phloo Says:

thanks for the quick fix. really appreciated!

    13. Bob Fry Says:

      Woo-Hoo!!! bugmenot is back!

Works pretty well. But, the below site seems to have just one entry in Bugmenot which doesn’t work; I think the behavior should be that the extension detects that Bugmenot asks the user the create a new entry. But the behavior that happens is it simply enters the nonworking extension over and over.

    14. x Says:

I’m using BMN 1.2, and on pages that have no login form, the context menu shows an empty section–that is, two separators with nothing in between them.

If I disable BMN 1.2 and restart Firefox 1.5, the empty adjacent separators disappear.

      Annoying, but not harmful.

    15. x Says:

Hmmm… I uninstalled and reinstalled the All-In-One-Sidebar (AIOS) 0.6.3 extension, and the separator problem seems to be gone. I guess, for whatever reason, AIOS needs to be installed after BMN, and not before (or, AIOS needs to be uninstalled/reinstalled after BMN is installed).

    16. Bob Fry Says:

BTW, I was using extension v. 1.2 and all three options were not checked (they should be enabled).

    17. Bob Fry Says:

Oh gawd….user error user error…mea culpa….I didn’t notice the extra menu below BMN….disregard previous posts….

    18. no Says:

The new BugMeNot 1.2 is nice!! But it creates an empty seperator on the bottom of the normal context-menu. It would be great if it wouldn’t. Thanks :)

    19. Eric Says:

There are a few fixes coming very soon, which include the auto-submittal and the separator bars.

Keep the error reporting up, guys.

    20. Jimbo Says:

Thanks for this great extension. One problem, though:

With 1.2, I get a menu item in the right-click menu with the site’s name and some options.

But this item persists, means: I used the extension today on site http://www.somesite.com. Now when I rightclick on any page, e.g. roachfiend.com, I get this menu item with http://www.somesite.com.
This is buggy in two ways: 1) it should display only when I’m in a textbox and 2) it should display only the data for the current site

    21. wxman Says:

Mozilla 1.7.12… Keeps repeating the first account, probably because in the submenu there are no additional accounts listed… (But there are in Firefox.)

Also , is it not longer capable of picking the next and the next and the next and so on by just clicking the first level menu? (Easier that way.) Isn’t doing it for me.

      Great extension, though.!

    22. Dmytri Kleiner Says:

Jimbo, thanks for your feedback. Making the “somesite.com” menu show up only when you right click on a text input would mean that you couldn’t select “next account” on sites like nypost.com which do not show the login form on the failed login page, and thus you would have to manually navigate back to the login form. Right now the extension remembers the url of the login form and will do it for you, that is why the menu remains.

    23. Goober Says:

I have been updating bugmenot on a regular basis. For some reason, on every site I try, nyt, inmb, every site on the bugmenot site I have tried and it always returns no login info available. Have uninstalled it, reinstalled. Thought noscript was messing with it, disabled that and adblock. Same results. I know its working with others so it just may be a glitch with me. FF 1.5 installed. Is there something I am doing wrong here? Either way great extension, been using it sinse it came out. Was excited to see it working again. Nice job. Just not working for me. Thanks

    24. Goober Says:

I only get login with bugmenot on right click, I haven’t seen any submenus. Uninstalled reinstalled extension same result. FF1.5

    25. Mike Says:

I agree with the “somesite.com” example Jimbo put forth. Dmytri, I get what you’re saying, but does it still need to persist over different websites? If I move away from somesite.com, either by loading a new page, switching tabs, or whatever, do I still need to see the somesite.com submenu in my context menu? This leaves a situation where after BMN has been used and as long as Firefox remains open, anyone could come along and see on what website BMN was last used.

    26. Dmytri Kleiner Says:

Mike, yes, the part about the accounts submenu not persisting over different websites is agreed and will be a feature of the next (imminent) release, along with a preference to turn off the submenu completely if you don’t visit sites like nypost.com where it is needed.

      Cheers.

    27. Goober Says:

Well caught my problem on another part of a forum on the site. Appears Norton Adblock was causing the problem. Works perfect again!!

    28. Doan Botherme Says:

Is Bugmenot down? I’ve tried several times get “The page cannot be displayed”.
