Always Remember Password
Instructs web sites to always remember your password. Some sites like Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, and banking sites instruct the browser to never allow your password manager to retain your information. If you use a shared workspace, then this is probably not desirable. If you are the sole user, then it’s quite handy.
If you want the functionality without the constant presence as an extension, you can use a
bookmarklet written
by Jesse Ruderman that this extension is based on.
Install Always Remember Password 0.6
(Size: 6kb Release Date: October 28th 2006)
Tested on Firefox 2.0.

Thanks for the plugin!
So far only glitch I’ve hit is not being able to access the page at Symantec to manually download updated defs?
Navigate to here…
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html
And try Clicking the “Download Updates” button.
Would there be any way of modifying future releases so a user could add a custom list of URLs where you don’t want the plugin to operate?
Cheers

Hello,
I tried your extension on the latest version of firefox ( 1.0.1 ), and as someone else had mentioned, it ‘broke’ that site from letting me login properly. The site was : http://www.excite.com/ , possibly someday, a newer version of your extension will allow me to login properly. Of course I feel the problem itself is with mozilla firefox not letting the password manager work properly. Thanks for all of your efforts.

Thank you for this extension, I hate it when sites use the autocomplete attribute and I’ve been looking for a way to solve this issue for a while now. However, I think this ability should be a built in preference, so I just filed a bug about it.

March 23rd, 2005 at 10:47 am
I would also welcome a form to add a URLs where you don’t want the plugin to operate – the reason why I uninstalled it after a week is that it broke my online banking at IUCU
March 23rd, 2005 at 10:09 pm
Thanks for the extension, works on Yahoo! and Hotmail.
It was working for ff 1.0.1 but when I upgraded ( 5 min ago) to ff 1.0.2 it would not work on http://www.blackboard.otago.ac.nz it just gave me a error saying that I didn’t supply any confirmation info, eg my password even though I typed in my password just to make sure that it was not a typing mistake.
anyway i uninstalled it and the yahoo one still works!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 23rd, 2005 at 10:12 pm
sorry remove the www. from the link to go to the site.
March 24th, 2005 at 10:47 am
Dear Eric,
Your always_remember_password works pretty well,I’ve already posted one comment about it. I’ve only found one site where it won’t work properly for me,it’s: http://www.excite.com > I get this notification when I attempt to sign in to check my e-mail.http://www1.excite.com/security/0,17167,,00.html
March 28th, 2005 at 7:57 am
Hay can you fix the Always Remember password extension? I Relly enyoy the extension. But it have a big but. If you have it activated. You can´t post now post in Vbulletin Forums. And that relly suxs so everytime you will save a password you need to activate the plugin. And when you not use it you need to deatcivate the plugin
March 29th, 2005 at 1:07 am
BETTER id. have a user set list of site to ALLOW it to remember passwords IE by default have the EXTENSION OFF and only turn on when I SAY turn on IE I goto a site and it does not ask to save so I do it again and this specify this extension to turn on !! problem solved. :-) so instead of a black list a white list.
April 8th, 2005 at 2:46 pm
Love the extension, I have found that it makes forms that use the onsubmit event to run JavaScript break.
I have created a test case for this (I didn’t always suspect your extension):
http://www.evulge.com/bugzilla/onsubmit.html
Thanks again for an cool extension. Make logging into Gmail a charm.
April 11th, 2005 at 9:09 am
Still does not ask to remember on fileplanet.
April 23rd, 2005 at 2:38 am
I hope there will be soon an update to Always Remember password extension to work with FF 1.0.3
April 24th, 2005 at 2:25 pm
It works but broke several sites. http://mail.marktwainis239.org/ will not let me login, and as you mentioned, the quick-reply on many forums does not work. But it does do its job :)
April 26th, 2005 at 7:29 am
Good extension. Works with Yahoo fine BUT it screws up the search feature in maps.google.com.
May 5th, 2005 at 1:49 pm
It does not work with Yahoo mail and Hotmail either.
May 31st, 2005 at 10:06 am
Using FF 1.0.4 and I have the latest JavaRuntime installed. This extension does not work with Yahoo mail. Bummer.
June 13th, 2005 at 11:08 am
Using either backpack or ta-da lists:
http://www.tadalist.com/
With the Always Remember Password extension turned on, firefox 1.0.4, the add button functionality does not work. When I disable the Always Remember Password extension, the add buttons work again.
I tried this with a fresh/clean install of FF1.0.4, everything works. Added ARP extension and the site functionality was broke.
I still love this extension though. Thanks for developing and posting it!
June 13th, 2005 at 8:11 pm
Breaks google maps on 1.0.4
June 15th, 2005 at 8:31 am
So far I have tested this extension on UT Austin’s login page at https://utdirect.utexas.edu/ and it does not remember the EID or Password fields. I have FF 1.04. What gives?
June 23rd, 2005 at 12:00 pm
Breaks Google Maps on Firefox Deer Park nightlies, too. Great extension … I hope it can be modified to fix these little issues.
June 23rd, 2005 at 7:14 pm
brilliant! i love this extention because on some sites its required that you always have to type in your password! this should be built-in to firefox!
July 6th, 2005 at 3:05 am
It doesn’t work with some sites, when the next update ?
Anyway, very good extension !
July 15th, 2005 at 9:53 am
This extension seems not to work with “Google Maps”. Once enabled, I can do search using “Google Maps”. Is it a bug? Thank you for a really nice extension. But this bug bothers me a lot.
September 11th, 2005 at 12:28 pm
Hay You shuld fix a bug in this nice plugin! It will not work whit Vbulletin… “www.vbulletin.com” its a fourm software. It do so you can´t write new post. When you have write them and will send…. it will not send it…. Thats the only prob whit this plugin… Please fix it ;)
Mvh Anton
September 11th, 2005 at 1:42 pm
As I stated in the initial post, it doesn’t always play nice with some sites, so you may encounter some problems. You can use the bookmarklet if you don’t want this function “on” all the time.
October 8th, 2005 at 6:54 pm
Is this extension still working on Firefox 1.5 Beta 2 ?
It worked great for me on Fx 1.0.6. It appeared to stop working on Firefox 1.5b1. I am using the 0.2 extension. I reinstalled the extension after the upgrade to Fx 1.5b2 and saw no improvement. My problem areas are Google and Yahoo. I am using the “remember password” bookmarklet to remember passwords and access those sites successfully. Used to be automatic with this extension. Hope it is just me. I have numerous Google and Yahoo accounts and this is a really handy extension to have.
October 13th, 2005 at 2:30 am
Thanks for the necessary extension!
Only there are problems with one search site http://all.by (the Belarus search system)
At input in the search string the invalid link of inquiry is formed.
For example by search of string “test” without usage of the extension URL is formed:
http://all.by/cgi-bin/search.cgi?query=test
At usage of the extension:
http://all.by/find/?action=http%3A%2F%2Fall.by%2Fcgi-bin%2Fsearch.cgi%3Fquery%3D&findtext=test&chapter=&x=26&y=10
And search is not made.
Sorry for bad english.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:10 pm
Hi
Will there ever be an update to this excellent extension?
I am finding increasingly that website features aren’t working for me, for example on an ebay listing if I click on thumbnails to see a larger image, they don’t work. I could rattle of numerous website features that don’t function properly for me. Is that possibly a compatibility issue with your extension? I remember you warn of possible conflicts in your initial description.
October 20th, 2005 at 6:08 pm
As of right now, I don’t see an update any time soon.
I would recommend using the bookmarklet over having this installed, just because of the problems you have mentioned.
October 24th, 2005 at 1:25 am
I use this Greasemonkey script that does much the same thing.
October 27th, 2005 at 9:35 pm
It seems to break the Yahoo Weather module on the Yahoo main page (www.yahoo.com). It won’t remember my location, and when I do enter in my ZIP code, instead of refreshing it with the pertinent information, it takes me to the weather page for my city.
November 4th, 2005 at 4:18 pm
I loaded the “Always Remember Password 3.0″ and am having problems. How do I remove/disable it? Using Firefox 1.0.7 with Win XP Pro.
November 4th, 2005 at 8:03 pm
Right click on the extension under Tools > Extensions. Select disable or uninstall.
My advice is if you’re unsure whether or not to install this extension, don’t. I personally don’t use it, but I know some people who use it without problems.
November 13th, 2005 at 10:48 am
i forget my pass word pls send it to me na
thxs
November 14th, 2005 at 4:34 am
Firefox 1.5 (Mac OS X) doesn’t ask if I would like to remember password on https://fnc.asbbank.co.nz This is my internet banking site. With the Camino Browser (also by Mozilla) and using Camino Extra Prefs I can tick an”autocomplete = off” option, and it does save that password, so I figure your Firefox extension ought to be able to work also.
November 15th, 2005 at 10:35 pm
great extention, but i assume this is the reason why i cant stay logged into google as mentioned above. i would keep this, but my gmail and google personal homepage not working right is a dealbreaker. i would even be happy if you just disabled it for google. good job so far tho
November 29th, 2005 at 4:31 pm
Don’t forget to update the update.rdf file ;-)
December 1st, 2005 at 11:09 am
I can’t get it to work with Firefox 1.5. Are you still working on an update that supports 1.5?
December 3rd, 2005 at 8:58 am
I love this extension and hope you can get it to work in FF 1.5.
I have multiple logins to Yahoo and can only get the dropdown list to appear if I click on the “Remember Password” bookmarklet first.
See http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/forms.html
Hope this helps you figure out how to get the extension working in FF 1.5
December 8th, 2005 at 10:33 pm
Love the extension, but I’m afraid it just doesn’t work in FF1.5,despite your “tweak”. Please update it–it’s a fine and valuable tool.
December 17th, 2005 at 8:22 pm
this ext does not work for anysite I’m trying to use it on. I hope its something I’m doing wrong. it says it works for 1.5??
January 3rd, 2006 at 10:48 am
I’Ve installed in on Firefox 1.5 german and it does not work with this page. I do NOT have ticked the message box to save my id cause I have several I’m logging in with. However, when I log in I’m not asked as usual whether I wanna save my password nor is it filled in the next time I log in. Any ideas?
January 12th, 2006 at 3:45 pm
That page does not save the login info. Is this because BOTH fields are bulleted inputs?
January 14th, 2006 at 9:48 am
Doesn’t work for Yahoo in FF1.5.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:41 pm
i’m pretty sure the point’s been made that this extension isn’t compatible with firefox 1.5.
January 23rd, 2006 at 11:46 pm
Not working with FF 1.5
January 23rd, 2006 at 11:48 pm
Doesn’t appear to work on anything using FF1.5 Windows. Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of America, Barracuda Firewall, Gnatbox Firewall, Yahoo Mail, etc. etc. etc.
Doesn’t ask if I want to save a password – doesn’t appear to be any instructions on how to make it function.
Good idea, very sad that it dosen’t work.
January 26th, 2006 at 3:15 pm

This progam appears not to work with Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Windows 98 SE. Yahoo.com is still able to suppress username and password autofill.
It still works just fine in Firefox 1.5 on FreeBSD. :)

Not a big deal to me, but some people get bent about this sort of thing:
“…instruct the browser to never allow your password manager to retain your information. If you use a shared workspace, then this is probably not desirable. If you are the sole user, then it’s quite handy.”
To make this true, reverse “shared workspace” and “the sole user”, or else reverse the “not” by eliminating “not” in the first statement and changing “handy” to “not handy” in the second.

A newspaper in Iran is now holding a cartoon contest called Holocaust Cartoon. Iran made Holocaust denial government policy when Iran foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in December that remarks made by the Iran president that the Nazi mass murder of Jews during World War II was a myth. The move left investors both optimistic and over-extended — as became apparent at the end of last week, modern rings when the rally hit a roadblock — and the stock market could be due for a bit more selling in the short term before attempting another run up, analysts say popular rings http://1engagement-rings.com/

Hi,
I need a quick heads up on the interest rate increase and adjustable rate mortgages since I have one and am not sure what to do. Refinancing to a fixed rate mortgage is really gonna be a hardship on my family at the moment, but I’m afraid if I don’t bite the bullet and do it now, it’s only going to get worse. Anybody have any ideas what’s the best way to go at the moment?
Thanks for your help
April 4th, 2006 at 1:26 pm
It’ll be nice if you build a feature that it allow me to create different personal profiles on the same PC, such that other family members who share the PC each can safe-keep and manage their own set of usernames and passwords too! Of course, each profile must be LOCKED by a master password. I found this feature in RoboForm. Details on this page http://www.record-screen.com/go/RoboForm

Debt consolidation entails taking out one loan to pay off many others. This is often done to secure a lower interest rate, secure a fixed interest rate or for the convenience of servicing only one loan. Debt consolidation can simply be from a number of unsecured loans into another unsecured loan, but more often it involves a secured loan against an asset that serves as collateral, which is most commonly a house (in this case a mortgage is secured against the house.) The collateralization of the loan allows a lower interest rate than without it, because by collateralizing, the asset owner agrees to allow the forced sale (foreclosure) of the asset in order to pay back the loan. The risk to the lender is reduced so the interest rate offered is lower. Sometimes, debt consolidation companies can discount the amount of the loan. When the debtor is in danger of bankruptcy, the debt consolidator will buy the loan at a discount. A prudent debtor can shop around for consolidators who will pass along some of the savings. Debt Consolidation can affect the ability of the debtor to discharge debts in bankruptcy, so the decision to consolidate must be weighed carefully. Debt consolidation is often advisable in theory when someone is paying credit card debt. Credit cards can carry a much larger interest rate than even an unsecured loan from a bank. Debtors with property such as a home or car may get a lower rate through a secured loan using their property as collateral. Then the total interest and the total cash flow paid towards the debt is lower allowing the debt to be paid off sooner, incurring less interest. In practice, many people are in credit card debt because they spend more than their income. If that habit continues, the consolidation will not benefit them much because they will simply increase their credit card balances again. Come get yourself debt free for free. – debt-consolidation.com

This extension stopped working when I upgraded to ff 1.5. I got tired of waiting for an update and started poking around in it. While I didn’t figure out what was wrong, I did come up with a fix. Just replace the passwordOvernay.xul in the extension with the following:

Hello and thanks for this extension. The principle is sounds, but given that it breaks half of my banking sites, you may consider the possibility of switching it on and off easily (as, say, Adblock Plus).
Thanks again,

Hi, Eric -
I recently switched from Firefox to Seamonkey and found this link on a page that claimed these extensions would work in Seamonkey. So I downloaded and installed Always Remember Password. It DID work, but it also broke my browser! I’m only getting HALF of every webpage I visit – the upper half – while the lower half of the screen is completely blank. I don’t see where anyone else has had this problem. So I tried to disable or uninstall Always Remember Password, but was given NO uninstall/disable option. HELP! I then tried completely uninstalling Seamonkey, clearing my cache, and reinstalling a fresh download, but now I can’t even get THAT to load properly. Please advise….all I want is my Seamonkey browser back!

The news which is presently doing the rounds in the pharmaceutical market is that smoking induces erectile dysfunction. A survey conducted jointly by the Action on Smoking and Health and the British Medical Association has astonishingly revealed that 120000 men in the UK are suffering from smoking induced erectile dysfunction. Don’t you feel that all smokers are about to perish sooner or later? Where is the solution for
this potential threat? Well, chantix is the answer. Once you buy chantix and administer it properly your dream to quit smoking would metamorphose into reality in a short while. Through the help of the anti-smoking drug Chantix your craving to smoke would diminish completely and there would be
no scope for impotency to unleash destruction in your life. Grab the drug as soon as you can for without it smoking cessation is a dream that can never be fulfilled.

Very very useful with FF 1.5.0.6. However, one difficulty encountered is that it only saves the PW, and does not save the username. And I can’t find a way to add that later. Any ideas would certainly be appreciated.

Thank you for free software!
Using Always Remember Password 0.5 works on most sites, except with
1. http://www.comcast.com/
2. http://www.verizonwireless.com/
For Comcast, it stalls on the “logging in” animation. For VerizonWireless, it winds up on what I think is their customized error 404 page.
Let me know if/how I can help you troubleshoot this. I appreciate your efforts!

Hi Eric,
I’ve had problems for ages with one of my extensions causing onSubmit for forms to be ignored. I just installed FF2.0, and cos it’s now easier to disable extensions I have finally tracked the culprit down to the Always Remember Password extension.
I’ve just noticed that this was reported way back in comment 10 (April 8th, 2005) by ErikG, and his testcase (http://www.evulge.com/bugzilla/onsubmit.html) still works. I did some more digging and noticed that this behaviour is by design on the original bookmarklet (http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/forms.html#remember_password).
However, this breaks any form that relies on an onSubmit, including ones that are nothing to do with passwords, since it runs on all pages – so can the part that kills onSubmits be removed? Removing “if(x.onsubmit){x.onsubmit=”"}” from the JS does the trick; I’ve just done a quick test and the browser still offers to remember the password with that taken out (if it doesn’t always work you could maybe add it as an option – but can I suggest it’s disabled by default?).
Regards,
Russ
October 29th, 2006 at 10:52 pm
Thanks Russ, it’s taken out now.
October 30th, 2006 at 10:44 am
Hi Eric,
Still not working; I had another look (just opening password.jar in a text editor!) and it looks like this bit needs removing too:
if(x.hasAttribute(“onsubmit”)) {
x.setAttribute(“onsubmit”, “”);
}
Out of interest, how come there’s very similar code in there twice? (I don’t know much about programming extensions!)
Oh, and the version number still seems to be 0.5 not 0.6 when I install the update, so I am being offered the update to 0.6 again even though I just downloaded and installed it.
Later,
Russ
October 30th, 2006 at 11:17 pm
Sounds like it’s not a clean install. Try clearing your cache and uninstalling the old one. Mine says 0.6 and that code you posted is not in there.
November 2nd, 2006 at 7:49 am
Thanks Eric – yes, looks like something went screwy there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and all is fine now.

When I try to install this in SeaMonkey:
SeaMonkey 1.0.6
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.8) Gecko/20061030 SeaMonkey/1.0.6
I get an error message, “install script not found”. Is this a known bug? Is it just not going to work with Sea Monkey? Or, could you please make it work with SeaMonkey? I just prefer it to Firefox, but would love to have this plug-in.
Thanks!

I’ve just upgraded to FF 2.0.0.1 on Gentoo Linux. Now login/password fields aren’t pre-populated. I have to manually enter in a username then tab out before a password is entered.
I’ve uninstalled the extension and reinstalled but this doesnt help.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a million!
January 12th, 2007 at 1:34 am
Found my own answer – due to security issues prefilling of forms was disabled by default. Within gentoo the pref can be changed in about:config by setting signon.prefillForms to True.

Eric,
A great extension. I have used it for 2 years, Now here is my question; can you make it work with Sea Monkey. I have left Netscape 9 because they will no longer support it after Feb 1. So, I have gone over to Sea Monkey and I can not get your extension to work with it. Can you give it a try?
thanks.
May 26th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
I used to really like this extension.
But I have now moved to FireFox 3.
It does not work in FireFox 3.
With everyone going to FireFox 3; the extension is now
useless.
I would really appreciate it; if you would get this extension updated and fixed.

This is one of my absolutely favorite extensions, so I just thought I’d give you a heads up on the fact that it won’t install for Firefox 3. I believe it prevents installation on extensions that don’t provide a secure update address.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
I can’t get it to install at all!!!
Angel (the last person to comment) says it isn’t working for Firefox 3, so maybe that’s the issue…
I have Firefox version 2.0.0.14 and when I install it, the window pops up with a message:
Firefox could not install the file at http://extensions.roachfiend.com/password.xpi
because: Not a valid install package
-207
Any ideas?
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:52 pm
I’ve tried to install it again and again, and finally, it works. Probably the fifth time I clicked the ‘Install Always Remember Password 0.6′ link
July 1st, 2008 at 4:05 pm
I have tried to “Install Always Remember Password 0.60″ at least 12 times. NO LUCK. I continue to get the message that FF will not install this because there are no “secure updates”.
July 2nd, 2008 at 4:12 am
You can try to install this here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/126510829/password.xpi.html
I modified the install descriptor and it installs without problems on Firefox 3. But update check won’t work and I also don’t know if the plugin itself will work, but you can try..
July 7th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
No Luck – FF will not accept/open this file.
